nest check
Nest #8 - 2024
Banded Bird # 76601- Female
This bird is 7 years old, was seen in the colony during the 2022-23 season, but has never built a nest or raised chicks. This is a first timer, just like #76674. We hope they are both successful.
These chicks have been named Todo and Munckin by a group of students in Californina. The mother is Galinda and the father is Fiero.
Dec 28. Last night was a large snow storm. No problem for the adults, but chicks need to be kept warm and dry. Not all parents were able to protect their nest from the storm. Check out THIS and THIS nests where the chick or the egg got cold and wet. The egg will not survive.
Jan 13, 2025. Nest Check for the 2024/25 season is over. We have pack our equipment and are leaving Cape Royds field camp. This year the chicks were big and healthy. The open ocean was near and there was plenty of food. Join us next Nov to watch a whole new seto of parents raise their chicks.

Todo and Munckin are the two chicks on the lesft side with their back to us. Today is cold and windy so they are with other chicks keeping warm.
Jan 13, 2025
This is our last picture of Todo and Munckin. It may be 4 or more years before they return to Cape Royds to raise their own family. They will spend their time out in the ocean, as most sea birds do, learning how to be a penguin and satying away from predators. We wish them good luck.
