nest check
Nest #7 - 2024
Banded Bird # 77225- Male
This bird is our youngest breeder. He is only 4 years old. His nest is very protected from the Skuas, so perhaps his mate is more experienced. When we arrrived, they had 2 eggs.
Ashley, a middle schooler from Las Vegas, NV has named the male Skipper. Her friend Amanda has named the female Kowalski. Great names for these parents.
Dec 28, 2024 Last night was a large snow storm. No problem for the adults, but chicks need to be kept warm and dry. Not all the chicks in our colony survived.
Dec, 28, 2024 During the storm, the first chick hatched. This strong parent was able to keep both the egg and the new chick warm and dry, Not all parents did as well, check out THIS and THIS nests where the chick or the egg got cold and wet. The egg will not survive.
