Nest #2 - 2025

Banded Bird #77380 – Female

This bird was born in 2021, making her 4 years old this year. This is a young bird who only returned to the colony for the first time last year. Last year, she did not attempt to breed, but this year she and her mate have one chick! Their nest is more protected, being slightly further into the subcolony of nesting birds, so perhaps her mate is more experienced.

The first photo was taken December 22nd and the nest log started with one chick. These birds need names!

The male is back. These parents appear to swap every day. There must be plenty of fish and krill to find at sea for them to return so quickly.
