Nest #1 - 2024
Banded Bird # 06661 – Male
This banded male was in our study in 2022. He is 11 years old now and first bred when he was 4, which is young for Adelie penguins. He could not raise chicks that year, but has successfully raised chicks the last three years. Let’s watch and see what happens this season.
First picture Dec 23, 2024 and this nest has 2 chicks.
The chicks have been named Adelio and Niko by the 7th graders in Ms Schaefer’s class at Mascoutah MS, IL.
Dec 28. Last night was a large snow storm. No problem for the adults, but chicks need to be kept warm and dry. Not all the chicks in our study did well. Check out THIS and THIS nest which did not do as well in the storm, the egg will not hatch.
