Nest #1 status and archive, 2007-08

This pair is a banded female (#2774) who is 7 years old with a mate about the same age. They have returned to the same nest site as last year, a subcolony near the small pond at Cape Royds. The pond is frozen now, but later will be open and a source of fresh water. When we arrived, Nov 17, she already had one egg. Her second egg was probably laid on Nov 21. We do not know the date of the first chick to hatch but the second one probably hatched on Dec 23. The egg shells were still near the nest when we retuned that day and took the picture. These nest successfully raised tw chicks this season. Click on any picture to see a larger version.
